…the 13th!
It’s been a long week.
Not so much because of anything in particular that’s going on, but because Terri isn’t around.
Normally I really look forward to getting home at the end of the day and seeing Terri waiting for me. Chatting with her. Telling her about my day. Goofing around. Hearing her mutter and laugh at things on Reddit. Eventually snuggling up in bed and watching TV for a while.
This week I’ve just been getting home, killing a couple hours playing SWTOR, and then going to bed. It’s a good-enough way to waste time… But it doesn’t really feel terribly fulfilling.
I’ll be much happier when Terri eventually gets home…

Well.
This has certainly been a long couple of days…
Took a day off from work yesterday, so I could drive over 8 hours to drop Terri off… Then spent the night at a local motel… And drove another 8 hours back home today.
I’m exhausted.
And I’m not going to get to see Terri again for about three weeks.
Fuck.

Working from home today…
Had to take some time off this morning, to haul Christopher off to his court appointment. Tried to get him to call yesterday to make sure nothing had changed, but he didn’t want to. And it turns out something had changed… So I took time off from work and drove all the way out there only to find out it had been rescheduled. Needless to say, I’m a bit annoyed.
Got home around 11:00, and I’ve been on-the-clock ever since. Trying to get a new Lync 2010 test/demo server up and running.
We’ve been relying on AIM for our chat services… And that just isn’t cutting it any longer. It’s insecure and unreliable. So we’re looking to replace it (as well as some other services like GoToMeeting) with Lync. And in order to that, we’ve got to get approval and funding for the pile of software and hardware it’ll take to make it happen. Which means we need to demo the product to the powers-that-be.
So… That’s what I’ve been working on lately.
I would’ve had a server up and running yesterday, but we ran into trouble with our CA. We haven’t gotten around to spinning up our own CA… And there was some trouble finding one that wanted to sign an internal domain for us… And Lync absolutely refuses to play nice without a certificate of some kind…
So we kind of spun our wheels for a while, while we tried to figure out what to do about the certificate.
Eventually we wound up paying Thawte an awful lot of money for a certificate that we’ll only be using for a couple months. Which annoys the hell out of me. But there isn’t much else we could do.

This weekend has been a blur…
Started feeling kind of crappy Friday night. Nothing major – just kind of sniffly. But I woke up Saturday morning feeling considerably worse. Stuffy nose, sinus pressure, scratchy throat – fun stuff like that.
I was able to sleep until nearly noon… But then I had to get up and head across the lake to pick Christopher up at the airport. Well, eventually to the airport… We had some more stuff planned before that.
We returned a couple pillows that proved to be too painful to use for sleeping. And we wandered around town a bit. Which was relatively fun… Except for me feeling sick.
Then we went to see Silent House, which was downright unpleasant.
Took a little while to recover from that… Then we had dinner… Then we picked up Christopher… Stopped by Barnes & Noble… And then we headed for home…
Got home around 10:00, and I went straight to bed.
Today, I was supposed to be at D&D, but I didn’t go. Felt like crap. Very stuffy/scratchy/congested. Very tired and achy. Just wanted to sleep. But, instead, I spent the better part of the day playing TOR.
Got my gunslinger up to 29. Killed lots of badguys. Got killed a few times myself. Honestly don’t remember too much of it.
And now I’m heading up to bed again… Feels like hardly any time has passed between getting home Friday night and now… But that’s it for my weekend – back to work tomorrow!

Did the daylight savings thing over the weekend… Not a fan.
I really don’t see where it actually helps anyone. I mean, I understand that the goal is to get sunlight during working hours… But I don’t think it would actually kill anyone to tell them that they’re working an 8-4 shift instead of a 9-5 because that’s when the sun is out. And it’d save everyone who doesn’t care about sunlight an awful lot of trouble.
So… Sunday I didn’t really feel the time change. I didn’t have anywhere to be or anything to do, so I was only peripherally aware of what time the clocks read. I woke up basically when I was done sleeping, and I went back to bed when I felt I needed to get more sleep.
Today, though… I’m feeling it.
Woke up at 5:00 – which my body insists is actually 4:00. Even though I got the usual quantity of sleep last night, I don’t feel rested. My body still thinks it ought to be in bed at this hour.
And it was dark on my commute in this morning… I was just starting to get used to having light in the morning, and now it’s dark again.
I’m really out-of-sorts… My body is telling me that it’s too early. That I should be asleep. That I didn’t get enough rest. That I’m here too early. And the clocks just don’t make sense. They tell me it’s one time, but my body disagrees with them. So I’m constantly double-checking to make sure I’m where I should be, when I should be… And then I’ll stumble across a clock that isn’t right – I hadn’t set the clock in my car yet… Or maybe some random wall clock that hasn’t been changed… And it confuses me even more.
It’ll be at least a couple of days before things feel normal again.

Christopher is heading down to Arizona to spend some time with my folks over Spring Break… Which means we’re going to spend most of Saturday morning at the airport. Will prove interesting, I think, to see how security has evolved. I haven’t flown since before 2001, so I haven’t experienced the joys of a TSA patdown.
This also means that Terri and I are going to have the house to ourselves again for the next week, which will be downright awesome.
