About Me
Most of you will be content to know that I’m a fairly typical computer geek - fascinated with technology in most of its forms and in love with gadgets of all types. I do a bit of programming here and there, run a couple websites, and fix computers.
More inquiring minds might like to know that I grew up in Monticello, Minnesota - a relatively small town about an hour north of Minneapolis.
I met the love of my life on the Internet, IRC to be specific, and moved out to upstate New York shortly after graduating from high school in 1996 to meet her and attend college.
I graduated with a BS in Computer Science in 2001, just in time for that wonderful bubble to burst. Finding a job right out of college was a challenge. I taught an introductory computer course at the local community college for several semesters and worked at Electronics Boutique for about four years.
In 2002 I finally married that wonderful woman that I’d met on the Internet, and we’ve been living happily ever after.
In 2005 I was hired at a local computer support company. I’ve spent the last few years repairing computers, building servers, managing networks, creating websites, providing phone support, and doing just about anything that can be classified even vaguely as “IT“.
In 2006 we bought our first house and have been discovering the joys of homeownership.
I’ve always enjoyed reading virtually anything, though horror and science fiction have always been favorites. These days I have precious little time to spend reading.
I used to play an assortment of pencil & paper roleplaying games, but I can’t even remember the last time I played one.
Computer gaming is another hobby I’m largely neglecting these days. I still play World of Warcraft quite a bit, but I haven’t had the money to upgrade my computer in years and new games simply laugh when I try to install them.
These days my time is largely spent tinkering with technology - this website, for example - and trying to keep up with my job. There’s always something new that I need to know… A new virus, storage technology, processor, or piece of software that’s suddenly decided to misbehave.
