so very true…

what time is it?

This holiday break has thoroughly confused my routine.  I honestly had no idea what day it was when I woke up this morning.  I couldn’t decide if I needed to get up and go in to work, or if I could go back to sleep.

I had Friday off, which was very nice.  We actually ran some errands and accomplished a good amount of stuff.  Got to visit some family and got some last-minute shopping done and stuff like that.

Saturday was Christmas – so we opened presents, called more family, ate a lot of food.  And since it was my second day off it felt like Sunday, which made me think that I had to go back to work the next day…

Except that today is the next day, and it’s only Sunday, so I didn’t have to go in to work.  Which is weird.  But it’s even weirder to realize that I’ve got tomorrow off as well.  And then I’ve only got a three-day week.  I’ve got Friday off for New Years.

I’m liking my new Droid quite a bit.  Took some pictures and video over the holidays.  I’m very impressed with the quality of the images.  It’s at least as good as I’d expect from a basic digital camera.  Definitely better than what I’d expect from a cell phone camera.

The calendar is great.  The email is great.  The app store is great.  It’s truly an incredible device.  Very glad I got it.

Also got a few books for Christmas.  Paper books.  I’m not quite sure how I feel about that…  I mean, I love to read.  I don’t really care what format they’re in.  But I’ve gotten so used to reading on my nook…  It’s going to seem weird to be flipping pages again.

Got a snuggie.  A badass snuggie with skulls on it.

Got some fuzzy pajama-pants.  Very warm.  Very comfortable.

Got some nice socks, and a bunch of candy, some cards…

Had a really nice day yesterday.  I think Terri really liked her gift.  I absolutely agonized over it.  It was great to see the look on her face when she opened it.

Been playing a lot of WoW.  Haven’t done much with my warlock or death knight lately.  Just been playing with my huntress.  Got her up to 57 today.  Having great fun with her.  Can’t wait ’til I get the beast mastery talent that lets me tame the epic/elite/fancy critters.  I want to pick up a devilsaur, and a couple silithid, and things like that.

Merry Christmas!

It seems that my concerns about the battery life on my Droid were unfounded.

I changed a couple settings on the phone yesterday – made the screen turn off sooner, and the data update less frequently – and the battery was fine all day long.  Didn’t even hit 50% by the time I went home for the day.  And that was with some poking around on the marketplace and a couple phonecalls.

So I think I’ll be just fine.

Got a shiny new Droid 2 for Christmas.  Got it a little early as it was purchased through work, to be used on the work phone line…

I’ve never owned a “smart phone” before.  I’ve owned several different PDAs over the years…  And had that netbook at my previous job…  I had a BlackBerry prior to this new phone, but it wasn’t anything like this Droid.

The touchscreen is nice and responsive.  Crisp, clear, very easy on the eyes.  There’s a ton of software already installed on it.  All sorts of gadgets.  The slide-out keyboard is very nice.  Much easier to type out an email on this than on my old BlackBerry.  The mobile hotspot feature is very nice.  Much easier to use than the whole tethering thing on my old BlackBerry.

Took me a little while to figure out the basic phone stuff.  Seems kind of silly…  Having to struggle to figure out how to make a phone call and stuff.  But that’s really just one small part of what this device can do.  And once you find the button it’s just as easy as any other phone.  It was a bit harder to set a custom ringtone for some of my contacts…  But I found that eventually.

I really like how it integrates with my Google account.  I use Google Voice, and I’ve got tons of contacts stored through it.  I used Google Calendar, and Gmail, and everything else.  I used a sync app on my BlackBerry, but it only worked about half the time.  This Droid simply talks to my Google account and downloads/uses everything it can.

My initial impression is that the battery life sucks.  I unboxed the thing around noon yesterday, charged it to 100%, and then played with it the rest of the day…  And it was complaining about a critically low battery around 8:00 or so.  Seems like it drained awfully fast.

Of course, I had no idea what I was doing…  Was spending an awful lot of time just looking at the screen and hitting random buttons.  I had an animated wallpaper set…  And the thing was vibrating and making noises any time I did anything…  And I was downloading plenty of stuff, and playing with the wi-fi, and whatever else.  So that probably doesn’t reflect a normal usage scenario.  Hopefully the battery will last longer under normal use.

I also ran into an issue in getting my new Droid to talk to my Kia Soul.  They’ve both got BlueTooth…  And it’s supposed to pair up and let me use the phone hands-free while driving…  My old BlackBerry worked just fine in that respect.  But my new Droid doesn’t.  It’ll pair, and I can use the Soul like a hands-free headset…  But I can’t do any of the commands like voice dialing or anything.  Apparently there’s an issue with the Droid 2 and transferring your address book over BlueTooth.  Hopefully they’ll fix it soon.

So far, I think I’m happy with it.  We’ll see how it holds up, and what I think about it after a few months.
