After three decades of speculation, original Alien director Ridley Scott has signed on to the new Fox sequel. ‘Nothing is known about the set-up of the new movie, except that chronologically it precedes the plight of the Nostromo. Since it’s obviously going to involve the human race [...] Writer Jon Spaihts successfully pitched to Fox and Scott Free Productions, and is working on the script.’
It’s Ridley Scott, who directed the original Alien movie, so there’s hope that it might not suck… And the story will probably make sense, as the original movie strongly implied that somebody knew what was on LV-426 before the Nostromo was sent there.
Last night, on the Rachel Maddow show, she was talking about some new anti-healthcare reform advertising.
The newest commercial has a couple sitting at a table, complaining that the government is refusing his surgery while approving money to Planned Parenthood for abortions. The implication, of course, is that healthcare reform will lead to some kind of Liberal Armageddon with free abortions for everyone while our god-fearing citizens are left to die.
There’s a couple problems with that…
First of all, people are refused medical treatment right now. We don’t need some theoretical Liberal Armageddon to see people die because they couldn’t get the treatment they need. It is happening today. And it happens today because people can’t afford to pay for the treatment they need, or because their insurance company won’t approve the treatment they need.
Secondly, stuff like Planned Parenthood is frequently free or covered by insurance already.
After announcing the sale of The Pirate Bay to Global Gaming Factory X, it was unknown what would become of TPB. Details of the future plans have been released. ‘According to Rosso, GGF plans to build a massive “storage cloud” on top of TPB that would use individual users as storage system’s nodes. Apparently users can opt out for being part of the decentralized storage system, but then they’d have to pay a monthly fee for the service. More resources the user is willing to commit for the service, the cheaper the monthly subscription fee will be … GGF’s plan is to harness the resources users are willing to allocate to the cloud service and sell that computing power and bandwidth to 3rd party companies, essentially creating a service that could be used as a content delivery network (system that most large sites — including ours — use to deliver static content, such as images, software downloads and stylesheets, faster to the end user) or even as a web hosting cloud. As the service would use P2P technology, it could bring massive savings to ISPs, as the delivery of content to an end user would be provided from the closest possible “node”, most likely from an user within the same ISP network.’
From “coolest site on the Internet” to completely irrelevant in just one press release. Way to go.
So, why exactly would I want to pay for access to the new and improved Pirate Bay? What are they going to offer that hundreds of other torrent trackers won’t have?
So… This guy is praying for Obama’s death. Like, literally asking God to kill Obama.
So, let’s assume for a moment that Mr. Drake really does believe in God. That he really does believe in the power of prayer. That he really does believe that his prayers have the power to kill Obama. Doesn’t that make this an assassination attempt? Isn’t Wiley Drake actually attempting to kill the President of the United States? Or, at the very least, trying to incite someone else to kill the President of the United States?
Isn’t there a law or two against that sort of thing?
Of course, I’m not terribly concerned about his prayers. I don’t believe there’s a god up there listening to them, so he might as well be asking a piece of drywall to give him a pony for Christmas. But Mr. Drake supposedly believes in this stuff. He is a Baptist Minister. He is, apparently, actually attempting to end President Obama’s life through prayer.
I wonder… Is he going to be content with just prayer? When his prayers aren’t answered, is he just going to shrug and move on? Or will he try using some other means to achieve his end?
And what about all the true believers out there? All those Republicans who are so vocally religious? I expect they’ll be looking to have Mr. Drake arrested for attempting to assassinate the President, right? Or are they actually going to stand by and let him make his attempt? Does that mean that they’re complicit?
Or, does this really mean that none of these supposedly religous folks actually believe their prayers have any power at all? Is Mr. Drake just making noises to impress people? Are all those vocally religious Republicans just telling voters what they want to hear?
