Our run of good movies ground to a halt last night, when we watched Dark Water. What a disappointment… I really expected it to be halfway decent, seeing how The Ring terrified me. Dark Water was originally billed as some kind of supernatural thriller/horror movie… But the movie we watched had very little of the supernatural in it, and it was certainly neither thrilling nor horrific.

It’s been a busy few days here, and not just because of Christmas.
On Saturday we were back out looking at houses again. Not sure if I’ve mentioned it here or not, but the nice house on Lorraine Street that we liked so much just isn’t going to happen. They’re going to court now, and it’ll be 6 - 12 months before there’s any resolution. So, we’ve started looking at houses again.
We looked at about six places on Saturday, saw a couple that were very nice, saw a couple that were downright frightening. There was one that was very nice…but a hair too small, and in a lousy neighborhood. There was another one that I personally liked quite a bit, but it was way too far out of town. Then there’s one right out on Route 3…
It isn’t the most amazing house I’ve ever seen, but it looks like it’d suit us quite well. The house, as it stands now, is easily as good as the one on Lorraine Street. It’s got 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a nice kitchen, living room, dining room… It’s about 3 miles out of the city, so the taxes are much lower. It’s also got a decent-sized yard, with a brook through the backyard. What I’m really excited about though, is the basement. Right now it is roughly half-finished. There’s a single bedroom in the basement, a bathroom, and a family room. For now, that’s more than enough to become our “computer room”… But, the plan is to eventually finish off the rest of the basement and turn it into our master bedroom.
So, we went back for a second look at the place yesterday. We were farm more critical the second time around…saw a few flaws…we’ll obviously want to get the place inspected… But it still looks very nice. We signed papers last night to cancel our offer on the Lorraine Street place, and today we’re going to put in an offer on the new place. It’s more expensive…we’ll have to see if we can get pre-approved for a bit more money from the bank…but with the lower taxes it should work out about the same in the end.
