Over 200,000 Turn Out to Protest Bush in New York
“Had we had to do it over again, we would look at the consequences of catastrophic success, being so successful so fast that an enemy that should have surrendered or been done in escaped and lived to fight another day.”

Well, I finally got logged in to WoW this morning, and I had a chance to play with my new hunter for a couple hours. He’s only up to level 6 now, and I don’t have a pet yet, but the play style already has some very distinct differences from virtually any other class I’ve ever played.
To start with, Hunters are very oriented towards ranged combat. Hunters get various ranged combat abilities that work basically like the special melee attacks that Warriors, Rogues, and Paladins get. For example, Hunters have a special attack that causes their next shot to do additional arcane damage. This means that Hunters are juggling just as many ranged special attacks as a Hunter would be juggling melee special attacks - it isn’t like in DAoC where all you did is fire off one arrow after another.
Which brings up another interesting point - Hunters get an autoattack for their ranged weapons. With autoshoot turne on, you’ll repeatedly shoot your target until they get into melee range. Considering how much you wind up shooting at things, this is a very good thing.
Hunters also get some melee abilities, but they really aren’t all that impressive. I’ve got one special attack for melee, and it does some decent damage, but it has a huge recharge timer on it. That’s fine though, since most monsters are over halfway dead by the time they get to me. I usually only have to hit them once or twice to finish them off.
If I’m able to pick my targets and intentionally pull them, getting several shots off before they’re in melee range, I take very little damage. I was chain killing monsters the same level I was with absolutely no downtime at all. However, Hunters really need that distance to get their damage in… Any time I got an add or accidentally aggroed something I didn’t want the battle got a lot messier. I’d usually live, but be down to half health or lower.
I’m curious to see exactly what the pet adds to a Hunter, but I’ve got another 4 levels until I can tame anything. It’ll be interesting to see if my pet can hold aggro while I shoot, or if it’ll just be an additional source of damage… And it’ll be interesting to see just how differently the various types of pets affect combat.
Hopefully the servers will still be up when I get home tonight…

Someone out there really doesn’t want me to try out the new Hunter class… I’ve been able to play with my new Hunter for about 30 minutes this morning, then I’ve been gone all day. I just got home and the world servers are down. I think someone at Blizzard hates me…

Well, as I announced this morning, the new patch is available for WoW. Unfortunately, Blizzard made some adjustments to their BitTorrent download system… The main difference being that it now automatically detects your connection speed. This is causing all kinds of problems because it is automatically detecting an upload speed that our connection can’t handle, and it is getting my entire connection (both upload and download) throttled down to crap. I’m not the only one having these problems either. I’ve had that file downloading since around 9:00 this morning, and I’m still not up and running yet.
